Schola Parva (Pre-K/K)

The "Little" School

Schola Parva is our “Little” school for those who may not be quite ready for the demands of the Schola Prima. This is meant for the 4-5 year old set but may be open to 3 – 6 year olds depending on need and director’s discretion. This is more of a bridge between the relaxed flexible home atmosphere to a more structured school day.

Morning Session:

  • Morning assembly – prayer and Pledge of Allegiance
  • Circle time – Saint, Virtue, Calendar, Liturgical Calendar
  • Memory Works – Latin, Timeline, & History Songs
  • Oral Presentations – Show & Tell
  • Project Time – Alphabet Work, Art or Science, Show & Tell
  • Storytime – Good books
  • Lunch Time
  • P.E. Time

Afternoon Session:

  • Language Arts – narration or illustration of today’s story (phonics practice, poetry, Nursery rhymes)
  • Directed Handwriting Practice
  • Quiet Time / Rest Time (with classical music)
  • Centers – letters, numbers, nature exploration, altar with liturgical significance, manipulatives, pretend play
  • Closing – song, closing prayers, clean-up

Dress code: Light blue polo shirt, dark blue skirts or pants (or shorts in warmer months), white socks, and black or brown shoes. (If the link does not work, go to the main website, click on “School Uniforms” and scroll down to enter school source code SPP.)

School Supplies

  • Backpack-Seasonal change of clothing-Sleeping mat
  • Blankie/stuffed animal – optional
  • Lunchbox
  • Water bottle (SPILL PROOF!)
  • Family folder with pockets
  • Pencil case with personal writing utensils: 3-5 sharpened pencils, (thick ones are better), round-tip highlighter or thick marker, and an eraser.
  • For the classroom box: box of 16 crayons, glue stick, safety scissors, and 8-count watercolor – these are to be left in class
  • Art smock or old shirt – to be left in class
